On the occasion of the 9th anniversary of the adoption of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the French network of the UN Global Compact unveiled the results of its Barometer measuring the European private sector’s contribution to the SDGs.
KEY FIGURES
- 69% of European companies have an in-depth understanding of the SDGs;
- 59% of companies have implemented a sustainable development strategy integrating the SDGs;
- Companies primarily focus on gender equality (44% of them), sustainable economic growth (44%), and climate change mitigation (41%);
- 58% of companies believe the SDGs have a positive impact on their economic performance.
The European networks of the UN Global Compact offer five recommendations for European companies:
- Better align the SDGs with financial challenges;
- Integrate the SDGs directly into corporate strategy;
- Strengthen communication around the SDGs by incorporating progress measurement tools;
- Build partnerships with more stakeholders, including governments and civil society organizations;
- Train suppliers on SDG-related issues.
